Young Royals Wiki

Hillerska Boarding School is a fictional, prestigious boarding school that serves as the main setting of Young Royals. The school is located in Sweden, close to a town called Bjärstad, where Simon and Sara live with their mother and commute to and from school everyday.

History[]

According to the date on the school sweatshirt, Hillerska was founded in 1901. It has housed and educated generations of privileged or noble children in their teenage years and has developed a reputation of doing so. The Royal Family has traditionally educated its family members here, and many other students are the children of alumni. Wilhelm's older brother, Erik, attended the school in his teenage years, and Felice, who is described by Madison to having one of the richest families of those in the student body, has had generations of women in her family attend the school.

The school has three grades and serves as an expansionary, high school equivalent form of education that is not required in Sweden, though most Swedish students choose to continue studying after comprehensive school, which consists of grades 1-9. Year one students at Hillerska will typically be 16-17, year two will be 17-18, and year three will be 18-19.[1]

Forest Ridge House[]

The Forest Ridge House is an all-male dormitory at Hillerska. Its contains both single and double rooms, but most students have to share with a roommate. Erik was surprised by Wilhelm receiving a single, as he had shared until his third year. After Erik's death, Wilhelm was moved into a double room for more space, but he did not get a roommate. New residents have to endure a brutal hazing at the hands of their dormmates, and they don't make exceptions even for princes.

Manor House[]

The Manor House is a female dormitory at Hillerska. Its most notable residents are Felice, Madison, and briefly Sara, who share a double dorm with an attached bathroom.

Music Room[]

The Music Room first appears in episode 3, where Simon is attempting to play the Hillerska song on the piano. It has large windows covering the back wall and contains an upright piano, several electronic keyboards, acoustic guitars, and a drum kit, alongside many other assorted small instruments.

Stables[]

The Stables are located on the Hillerska campus and also include an indoor riding area and dedicated coaching. Sara and Felice begin their friendship here, and it's where Felice keeps her horse, Rousseau.

Trivia[]

  • The scenes at Hillerska were filmed at Kaggeholms Slott, Ekerö, Sweden.[2]
  • In episode 1, Madison says that the school's tuition costs around $20k a year. However, it's unclear if everyone pays that price because Madison is an American who may not have Swedish citizenship, so she may pay an international tuition.
  • The school seems to have a private lake where students practice their rowing, and its own stables and indoor riding arena that Felice and Sara frequent.
  • Hillerska is likely affiliated with the Church of Sweden, as it has a chapel and the dormitories pray before meals.
  • A fair portion of the student culture at Hillerska seems to revolve around substances and sex, with intense hazing rituals for new students, a need for strong alcohol, and large dorm rituals the mornings after parties where students may be pressured into openly discussing sexual activities, all appearing to be a school-wide norm.
  • There is a plaque on the wall at Manor House (and possibly at the Forest Ridge House too) which has a motto on it: "You own the school, you should embrace your responsibility for its legacy."
Hillerska song

Our nation's flag we wear with pride
As we travel this nation wide
Hope and faith wherever we roam
As we make our way back home
Oh, we meet with open hearts
Of everlasting bonds take part
The spirit strong in one and all
We congregate in hallowed halls
