Young Royals Wiki

Simon Eriksson is one of the main characters in Young Royals. He is portrayed by Omar Rudberg.

He is a student who, unlike his classmates, doesn't board at Hillerska and lives with his mother and sister. He catches Wilhelm's eye early on and the two develop a very complicated relationship.

Biography[]

Background[]

Simon grew up in Bjärstad, the town surrounding Hillerska. His mother is of Latin American descent. His parents are divorced. He lives with his mom and sister. He speaks Swedish, English, and Spanish. He was a regular student at Marieberg but dropped out because of Sara's bullying issue. He started studying at Hillerska Boarding School to keep an eye on Sara as a scholarship non-res student. He is part of the working-class and is often called a 'Sosse' (i.e. socialist boy) by August. He is critical of the monarchy with their elitist values, and is not afraid to talk about it. He is a tenor, and loves performing in the school choir. His father has drug and alcohol issues (there was also a hint about abuse), therefore relatives do not contact him (yet, we see Simon contact him to get the booze for Wilhelm's initiation party in the first episode of Season 1).

Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

Episode 1[]

To welcome Wilhelm to Hillerska, the choir performs a song. While singing the lead vocals, Simon catches Wilhelm's attention. August introduces himself to Simon and asks for him to supply booze for Wilhelm's initiation party and offers and invitation to the party in return. Simon walks away without saying anything.

After seeing how his sister was being treated by Felice, Simon tells Sara that she shouldn't be spoken to that way and pleads for Sara to tell him if anything else happens. On the bus ride home, he meets up with his friends Ayub and Rosh from Marieberg, his old school. Simon tells his mom that they were invited to a party, seemingly accepting August's offer.

The following day, tension arises between Simon and his wealthier classmates while discussing which is worse: tax evasion or welfare scamming. Upon most of his classmates agreeing that welfare scams are worse, he scoffs, and the teacher asks if he would like to contribute something too. He tells the class that the question itself is weird, and that they're essentially the same action, just one's done by poor people and one's done by rich. Seemingly impressed by Simon, Wilhelm introduces himself to Simon during mealtime, but tells him he couldn't have agreed in class because he's not allowed to discuss politics. Their conversation is interrupted by August who encourages Wilhelm to move and sit next to him. After formally meeting Wilhelm, Simon tells August that he will bring some alcohol if he and Sara can attend the initiation party, and August accepts.

After school, he visits his father, with whom he has an estranged relationship. Simon tells him that he knows he is dealing booze and he needs some for a party. Micke agrees, saying he knows what it's like to try and impress a cute girl. Simon reminds his dad that he's gay, and Micke changes the subject to a cute guy. Simon smiles a little. Micke tells Simon that he will get it for him and before leaving he asks Micke to not tell anyone that he been there.

During the height of the party, Wilhelm heads outside with Simon and get talking together. August comes looking for Wilhelm, so they end up hiding from August. They sit close together and stare at each other. There is a visible sexual tension and attraction which results in Wilhelm closing his eyes to break the tension.[1]

Episode 2[]

In the start of the episode, Simon gets an unsatisfactory grade on a math test and Wilhelm explains to him that Mr. Englund is less strict with the students who pay for private tutoring. After class, Simon goes up to the teacher and asks for private tutoring. The next morning Simon, along with the rest of the rowing team, go to train. Later that night, Simon invites Wilhelm with him to go to Rosh's soccer game where Ayub immediately can tell that Simon likes Wilhelm. At the horror movie night, when Wilhelm puts his pinky finger on Simon's lap, Simon interlocks their fingers and after when Wilhelm leaves the room, Simon follows him. Simon works up the nerve and kisses him. When Wilhelm doesn’t react, he kisses him again, and Wilhelm breaks away after hearing the students in the other room scream at the movie. He begins to say, "I'm not..." but never finishes his sentence. Simon turns to leave, but Wilhelm grabs him by the sleeve and finally kisses him back.

Episode 3[]

Wilhelm walks through Hillerska and stops when he finds Simon attempting to play the piano in the music room. Upon realizing that Simon can’t read sheet music, he sits down next to him to teach him the Hillerska song. After Simon successfully plays through the short piece, he brings up the events that transpired during movie night. Wilhelm interrupts and says that they should forget about it, but that he wants to remain friends. Simon gets up to leave and halfheartedly agrees to keep their friendship.

In the locker room after rowing practice, Wilhelm and Simon exchange stares, but don’t get to interact much as August interrupts them. Simon purposefully avoids Wilhelm for the next few days, until Wilhelm makes up his mind and finds Simon after training in the gym. He starts telling Simon about the schedule for Parents’ day that allows the boarding students to head home for the weekend. Unsure about where the conversation is going, Simon jokingly thanks him for explaining the schedule and heads to leave, but Wilhelm quickly continues and explains that no one else will be at the school. He finally asks Simon would keep him company over the weekend if he were to remain at Hillerska instead of heading back to the castle. Simon asks what happened to forgetting about it, and Wilhelm tells him that he takes it back. Simon smiles and agrees to the plans.

During Parents’ Day, Wilhelm and Simon are visibly excited about their weekend plans and smile at each other throughout the choir’s performance of the school song. August brings Wilhelm into conversations with some of the parents, and the two take some photos together before Wilhelm heads back to his room to call Erik.

Although there’s an open seat next to August intended for him, Wilhelm decides to sit with with Simon and Felice’s families, an action that upsets August and makes Simon try to hide his smile. He greets Felice’s parents, Smysan and Poppe Ehrencrona, and gets introduced to Linda. Smysan inquires about his activities, and Linda tells the Ehrencronas that Sara does horseback riding like Felice and Wilhelm. Sara then admits to riding Felice' horse Rousseau and Simon hisses to Sara that she shouldn't always tell everyone everything, since Felice becomes upset and leaves the room soon afterward.

The next day, Wilhelm finds Simon during mealtime and pulls him away to an empty hallway to tell him that August is staying at school for the weekend. Simon understands that it means he can’t come over now. Wilhelm receives a call, but declines it, and instead asks Simon if he can come to Bjärstad instead. Simon agrees, and the two head out. When they exit the school building, Wilhelm is greeted by a swarm of students staring at him and whispering, which quickly clues him in that something is wrong. Tension starts to build as he overhears some of them asking if they should say something, and the school psychologist comes to escort him back inside. Simon and Wilhelm look at one another, before he leaves to follow the school psychologist.

Episode 4[]

Simon tries to reach out to comfort Wilhelm multiple times after this brother's death, but with no reply. When Wilhelm returns to the school, Simon and the choir sing a song in the late Prince's honor, and Simon listens carefully to Wilhelm's speech afterward. After everyone else has left, Simon sits next to Wilhelm and asks how he is doing, and Wilhelm says he's okay. They don't talk for long, because Wilhelm tells Simon to delete all their texts and that he can't do this anymore, then leaves.

Simon keeps his distance from Wilhelm, until he gets a call late at night from a very intoxicated Wille, who confesses "I really like you." Simon realizes who is on the other end of the line and races to find him lying on the soccer field. Simon is frustrated with Wilhelm and repeatedly asks him what he took and checks his pupils, worried for his well-being. Simon then lugs Wilhelm back to his dorm and gets him into bed, and falls asleep sitting up at the end of Wilhelm's bed.

Wilhelm wakes up when Simon goes to leave and stops him. He apologizes for the mess from the night before and asks Simon to hold him. Simon does, and then asks if he remembers what he said last night. Wilhelm gets nervous, but Simon assures him that its okay and he feels the same. Wilhelm admits that he does remember, and they finally kiss and quickly become intimate. Meanwhile, August is knocking on windows and trying to get back into the school after the previous night. He reaches Wilhelm's window and sees him on top of someone. He takes out his phone and starts filming, most likely to tease him later on, but sees Simon's face and is visibly shocked.

Episode 5[]

A few hours later, Wilhelm wakes Simon up in his bed. They start to kiss again, but are interrupted by Wilhelm's body guard outside the door reminding him that breakfast closes in five minutes. Wilhelm decides that he'll go ahead with his body guards and Simon will follow later and make it look like he had come from the bus stop. Simon teases and laughs at Wilhelm until he leaves. After breakfast, the two find each other outside and Simon gestures for Wilhelm to come over, but August and the other students from The Society stop him. Simon looks disappointed and goes off to class alone. August asks Wilhelm what happened to him the night before, knowing that he ended up with Simon. Wilhelm lies and says he totally blacked out, but woke up in his own bed.

Wilhelm finds Simon in class and sneaks the breakfast into his lap. Sara comes into class and asks Simon why he hadn't been answering her texts. He says his phone had died and he didn't have a charger, and Sara says "Because you didn't sleep at home?" Simon replies, "No, I didn't." Sara looks at Wilhelm knowingly. Class begins and Wilhelm finds out his classmate and fellow Society member, Alexander, is not in class.

Wilhelm and Simon go on a walk with Wilhelm's bodyguards accompanying them. Wilhelm kisses Simon when the guards aren't looking and laughs when Simon is slightly nervous about getting caught. They walk down to the waterfront, flirting and joking around.

A few days later, Wilhelm and his body guard go over to Simon's house. Simon's mom, Linda, greets him and says he's always welcome and offers to take his jacket, but Simon says they are going to start 'gaming'. They go to Simon's room and Wilhelm looks around, calling it cozy. He notices a fish tank in the corner and asks their names. While Simon is naming them, Wilhelm hugs him from behind and kisses his neck, distracting him. They start to kiss, but Simon breaks away and runs to his computer. He turns on a game and puts the volume very high. Wilhelm asks why he did that, and Simon says it's so the people in the next room won't hear them. Wilhelm teases him and asks if that turns him on, and Simon blushes and kisses him.

A few days later, August informs the Society that Alexander still hasn't said anything, but is threatening to rat them out if they don't back him up. He then suggests that they blame Simon for giving them drugs, since he is a non-res, and the one who sold to them in the first place. August is amused at Wilhelm's reaction to this, and says "He didn't tell you?" Later that day, Wilhelm confronts Simon about selling drugs and an argument ensues. Simon clarifies that he only sold the drugs because August owes him money. Wilhelm is confused, and Simon explains that August is broke and couldn't pay him back. Wilhelm tells him that the other guys want to blame Simon instead of Alexander, and that he cannot get kicked out of school. Simon misinterprets this as Wilhelm agreeing with them and gets very angry, and Wilhelm yells that that's not what he meant and that he doesn't know what to do. Simon says he's not going to protect the Royal Family just because the Crown Prince fucked up and leaves. Wilhelm resolves to fix the situation and texts Simon so.

At the Society meeting, August continues to push for them all to blame Simon, but Wilhelm stands up and suggests they blame Alexander, one of their own instead. When August challenges Wilhelm's status as a new member, Wilhelm reveals to the rest of the Society that August is broke, winning their argument and infuriating August. Wilhelm reminds everyone that they all swore an oath to protect the crown, and since he's the Crown Prince, he says they blame Alexander. He asks if there are any objections. There are none. All of the boys, including August, fall in line with Wilhelm's plan and Alexander takes the fall instead of Simon.

At the Sankta Lucia ceremony, Wilhelm explains that he took care of everything and Simon is in the clear, but Simon is still defensive and asks if he's supposed to say thank you. Wilhelm confesses after a moment that he didn't want to lose Simon, so Simon gets up and pulls him into a hug. They hug for a while, Wilhelm cries, and they kiss. Little do they know, a very angry and embarrassed August is in the library leaking the video he took of them to the internet.

That night, August gets a call from the palace and is told that his fees have been paid for by the Queen and he can stay at Hillerska. He is confused, and they tell him Prince Wilhelm requested that it be taken care of. August has a sinking realization that Wilhelm did something very kind and considerate for him, and he just outed Wilhelm to the entire world. The episode ends with Wilhelm getting a random text of the viral video August posted.

Episode 6[]

The episode begins with the chaos resulting from the video, with both the school and the world at large weighing in on everything. Wilhelm and Simon are seen terrified, embarrassed, and upset in their own rooms. The Queen arrives at Hillerska to talk to Wilhelm, and while she is comforting, she also firmly states that they will have to issue a statement claiming that Wilhelm is not in the video since his face isn't shown and she also doesn't want him seen with Simon, since that would only spark more rumors.

Wilhelm doesn't attend dinner, so August brings it to his room. He tells Wilhelm he doesn't need to hide and that if anyone gives him a hard time, he'll deal with it. He goes to leave, but Wilhelm apologizes for telling The Society about his financial problems and being immature. August is very quick to forgive him. Wilhelm gets frustrated and says he wishes Erik were there because he'd know what to do. He keeps rambling, saying he has no idea what to do and is on the verge of tears. This clearly makes August feel very uncomfortable and guilty. August tells him that he thinks Erik would've told him to be himself, and then leaves.

Despite his mother's warning, Wilhelm texts Simon and asks him to come to school so they can talk. Simon returns after a few days of staying at home, and when he walks into class, everyone starts staring and whispering since it's the first time anyone has seen Wilhelm and Simon in the same room. After class, Wilhelm and Simon meet in the locker room. At first they are both quiet, but after a few moments they hold each other closely, clearly sensing each other's distress. Wilhelm eventually tells Simon that his mother wants him to issue a denial, when in reality he doesn't want to address anything. Simon says they can't dictate what Wilhelm says, but Wilhelm still seems unsure. Simon says, "We didn't do anything wrong." Wilhelm rests his head on Simon's shoulder and replies, "No. We didn't." They hold each other and agree that they're in this together.

Unbeknownst to Wilhelm and Simon, Sara knows that it was August that took and posted the video but, she does not tell Simon OR Wilhelm and instead lets August buy her silence. In exchange for not saying anything, August will help Sara become a resident at Hillerska.

In response to a text from Wilhelm, Simon comes by to say goodbye before Wille leaves to make a formal statement. Wilhelm resolves to talk to his mother to try and change her mind, claiming that he won't say what they want him to because he isn't guilty of anything. Simon smiles, clearly happy with his answer, and tells Wille that he is brave, hugging and kissing him gently. When they leave, to Wilhelm's surprise, his mother is there with the escorts. Simon follows him outside and greets The Queen, who seems ambivalent about meeting him.

In the car, Wilhelm asks his mom why he can't just not say anything and live quietly, however he wants, with Simon. His mother asks him if dealing with all the media frenzy and judgement that will come with being honest is worth it for one person, and that she wants to protect him from judgement. She tells him that she, too, had an unfortunate romance at his age, implying she thinks his relationship with Simon is 'unfortunate'. Wilhelm mulls over this, and ultimately decides to deny being the one in the video. However, he does not tell Simon about this beforehand and Simon is told by his friend Ayub when the news breaks.

Simon is visibly upset after Wilhelm's denial, and his mother tries to comfort him as best as she can. Wilhelm sends Simon a frenzy of texts apologizing and insists that he want to meet him outside. Wilhelm claims they can still be together, they just can't be seen because he doesn't want to be outed. But Simon says he isn't asking Wille to come out, just to figure out what he need on his own, and that during that time, he doesn't want to be kept a secret. Simon walks away upset but firm, leaving a tearful Wilhelm behind.

Soon after this, Felice figures out that it was August who leaked the video, and shows Wilhelm the evidence. Wilhelm becomes infuriated at both August, and later his mother, for not telling him and for punishing August. His mother says that she is protecting the family and that he has already denied being the one in the video, so they're sticking to it. This seems to be a breaking point for Wilhelm. He doesn't say another word on the phone and hangs up on her mid-sentence, then begins to cry.

On the last day of term, the choir gives a performance. Afterwards, Wilhelm finds Simon and says it was beautiful. Simon thanks him and Wilhelm suddenly hugs Simon with most of the school behind them, watching, but he doesn't care. While hugging, he tells Simon he loves him. They pull apart, and Simon tells him to have a good Christmas. Wilhelm says thank you and leaves, but the scene itself resonates with both boys long after the episode ends.

Physical Appearance[]

Simon has light brown skin and dark curly hair. He is of average height and has a slim build. He is quite attractive with his beautiful facial features (as Wilhelm addressed in episode 4 of Season 1). He wears casual clothes such as shirts, hoodies mostly of purple, green, maroon and yellow colours. He owns a stripped beanie and wears it throughout the series. It is green with dark blue colours. He has an orange coloured backpack he uses continuously. He actually does not care about his physical appearance and outfit much.

Personality[]

Simon is an outgoing person who isn't afraid to speak his mind. He is kind, understanding, and has a good sense of humor. He doesn't let people push him around and doesn't seem to care that people make fun of him for being a non-res. As shown in the very first episode, Simon has an exceptional singing voice, a talent which cannot be denied by the richer students who often look down on him. Unlike Wilhelm, who is often anxious, Simon comes across as very relaxed and easygoing most of the time. When it comes to the people he loves, he can be self-sacrificing sometimes (which Sara addressed at the last episode of Season 1). He often gives people around him second chances, like his father who has several serious addictions, and Wilhelm in later episodes. Likely because of his father, Simon is never shown to be drinking, and he seems annoyed and frightened when he finds Wilhelm incapacitated on the soccer field.

However, Simon can also become easily frustrated with people who blindside him, like when August continuously refuses to pay for the drugs and alcohol Simon stole from him, an anger which built to a point where Simon physically attacked August. His father also lies to him and his sister Sara by claiming that he is clean and promising to stay away from them, but failing to keep his word. Simon even becomes upset with Wilhelm multiple times throughout the show, usually when Wilhelm chooses to protect himself and his rich friends instead of embracing his feelings for Simon.

Relationships[]

Romantic[]

Wilhelm[]

Simon met Wilhelm in the first episode of Season 1, and had a tumultuous romance between then and the last episode of the season (approx. 3 months). The two are seen to be emotionally and physically close throughout the show, often teasing one another, touching hands, sharing smiles across rooms, and generally showing care for one another. Their romance (as of Episode 6) seemingly ended, or was at least put on pause, until Simon isn't kept as Wilhelm's 'secret', as he described their relationship. Wilhelm appears to be his first love.

Family[]

Sara[]

Simon and Sara are quite close in terms of siblings, possibly because Simon had to watch out for her as they were growing up. While they are close, they are also realistic siblings who have petty arguments. Throughout the First Season, they have fought over several subjects including: Simon seeing Micke behind Sara's back, Sara letting Felice talk down to her, Simon hiding what's going on between him and Wilhelm and Sara acting stuck up and making disrespectful comments towards Linda.

Long before season 1, something happened between the family that caused Sara and Simon to promise to stay away from their father, Micke. Sara describes him as a person who can't take care of himself and makes everyone around him suffer; when Simon goes to Micke's house, he is passed out drunk with bottles all over the floor. Simon and his mother both generally stay away from alcohol, while Sara drinks at Wilhelm's initiation party and gets a disapproving look from Simon. It seems as though the family have agreed to not let themselves become like Micke.

As of season 1, it is both Sara and Simon's first year at Hillerska. At their old public school, Sara was severely bullied for her Aspergers and ADHD. Because of this, Sara was scared to go to school and failed the school year. Despite being the younger sibling, Simon is protective of Sara and went as far to transfer to Hillerska with her solely to watch after her and make sure she was wasn't bullied again. Sara has evidently told him multiple times that he doesn't have to do this, but Simon does anyway. He wants her to be social and have some friends, which is what pushed him to get the booze for August so they could get invites. When Simon is close to losing his temper, Sara is the one to tell him to let it go. Simon is disapproving of her friendship with Felice at first after seeing Felice being rude to Sara. Still, they sit together in class and Simon often asks her if she's doing okay. Sara is originally a little upset that Simon was lying to her, but is supportive of his relationship with Wilhelm and keeps the secret.

Although Simon is the youngest of the household, he typically handles things with Sara and many problems within the family. Although Linda is a kind and loving mother, much of the responsibility typically falls on Simon. When Micke shows up at Sankta Lucia, Sara asks Simon to tell him to leave, not Linda, and Linda lets that happen. When Sara is disrespectful to Linda, Simon tells Linda that he'll handle her, and again, Linda lets it happen.

While Sara is not a bad or mean person, much of her priorities lie more with fitting in at Hillerska and being 'proper'. After the video leaks, Sara doesn't show much sympathy towards Simon and gets angry when their mother wants both of them to transfer, even though Simon had left his old school and friends behind solely to support Sara only months before. By the end of the season, she has her sights set on being a full-time resident. Sara knows that is was August who posted the video, but doesn't tell Wilhelm or her own brother. Instead, she makes a deal with August that if she keeps quiet, he will help her become a resident. She initiates a kiss with August moments after making this deal.

Linda[]

Simon's mother, separated from his father, often speaks Spanish with her children and is very open and welcoming to their friends. Although Linda is not rich or well-respected at Hillerska, she doesn't feel out of place and owns her status rather than being cowed by the other parents. She shows a significant amount of love and concern for Simon and Sara, asking them if they have made new friends, embracing them often, and checking up on them to see if they are okay. Unlike Wilhelm's mother, Linda is open, kind, and nonjudgemental of her children, accepting them for who they are instead of who they should be.

Micke[]

Simon and Sara's father, who they supposedly have no contact with, has a heavy reliance on drugs and alcohol. His children have stayed away from him in the past as his addictions have harmed their family multiple times, and, according to Sara, "everyone around him suffers." While Simon exploits his father to get August drugs and alcohol, Sara wants nothing to do with Micke, and becomes visibly distressed when he unexpectedly shows up at Lucia. It's clear that Micke's presence is more distressing than comforting to his family.
